Site Navigation What is usability? There are many definitions of usability across the web. Here is ours: "The effectiveness of a site in supporting its users". Clear, concise and straight to the point. Now that consumers are wiser in their use of the internet it is imperative that your site is constructed with the user in mind. Adhering to comprehensive usability principles, such as clear navigation, consistency, error prevention and jargon free content ensures that visitors to your site experience minimal frustration and increases both purchase and return rates. People will no longer tolerate painfully slow graphic downloads that do little for the user experience, confusing navigation, intrusive registration nor never ending checkout procedures. This Procrustean approach is recognised as yesterday's design with future success reserved for those who focus on consumers' needs. For examples of some of the finer points of internet usability, pick a greetings card from thinkcards.com, or take a trip down the Amazon, consistently praised for its efficiency and functionality, not least by the internet's self styled guru of usability Jakob Nielsen.
